The Amstrad PC 2086 was an IBM XT (PC) compatible computer.

It was available in various configurations each had an 8MHz 8086 processor and 640Kb of RAM.

The configurations were:

  • 2 X 3.5" 720Kb FDDs + 32Mb Hard Card (HDD on a ISA interface card);
  • 1 X 3.5" 720Kb FDD + 32Mb Hard Card;
  • 2 X 3.5" 720Kb FDDs;
  • 1 X 3.5" 720Kb FDD.

The computer also came with wither a Monochrome or Colour VGA monitor.

Unlike it predecessors, the 1512 & 1640 which had their PSUs in the monitor, the PSU was built into the computer itself. This meant that the PC2086 could work with any VGA compatible monitor. The only downside was that you needed 2 power sockets (1 for the computer and 1 for the monitor).

The computer had 3 8 bit ISA slots that were accessed from a panel to the top rear of the case. One of these was used for the 32Mb Hard Card for configurations that included it.

The PC2086 was supplied with a number of software packages including:

  • MS-DOS 3.3
  • Windows 3.1
  • Lotus Symphony
